Résumé

This exploratory study identifies and analyses the way in which primary school principals run their schools regarding pupils’ support in Côte d’Ivoire. An in-depth qualitative approach that fits within the paradigm of the ethics of care: caring (Gilligan, 1982), has been adopted as a research model. The investigative method for collecting the data is based on a semi-structured interview and observation. The results reveal that apart from the cognitive assistance in the classrooms, the students get a safe supervision and a caring relational support from principals; which contributes positively to learning and subsequently to the academic performance of students.
